Taking place in Hampshire, Grand Master & Former Under 18 World Champion Nick Pert has organised the 3rd Heatherside Junior School Tournament & Training Day. This event has been listed on our tournament calendar and offers Junior players a great opportunity for juniors to develop and improve their chess ability. There are two main features to this event, the tournament itself alongside specialist training for Junior players.
Date: Sunday May 7 2017 12:45 PM – 6:00 PM BST
Location: Heatherside Jnr School, Reading Road South, Fleet, GU52 7TH, Fleet, United Kingdom
Tournament
The tournament will be played in two sections. The first, an ECF graded top section for experienced juniors (max grade 150), for which they should be registered with the ECF as a member (first year’s silver membership is free for juniors) to avoid a £3 grading fee. This is an open section for children of all ages and abilities, but typically children playing in this section will already have experience of playing in a number of chess tournaments.
The second section is not ECF graded and is designed for less experienced juniors, who may have only played in one or two tournaments, or even none at all, to gain experience among other children of a similar level.
Both sections are rapidplay, with 20 minutes on the clock plus a 5 second increment.
Training
Training will be provided in a separate training room by an experienced chess coach from half past each hour until 5 minutes before the start of the round. This is a fantastic opportunity for your child to get immersed in chess for the afternoon – lots of parents report great improvements in their children’s playing ability after these sessions and they’re great fun too!
